2013 Defensive Rookie of the Year

Here are the five candidates for the 2013 FFL Defensive Rookie of the Year (in alphabetical order)

Puurs Titans CB #88 – Raphael Baeten

Stats : 6 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 pass defended, 2 interceptions*

The sort of corner who isn’t afraid of press coverage, and has the speed to back it up. Does a bit too much talking for my liking, but that’s being a shutdown corner, I suppose.

Brussels Bulls CB #32 – Guillaume Cerfontaine

Stats : 7 tackles, 4 passes defended, 2 interceptions

Solid tackler, but a guy who can make a play on the football when it’s in his area. Which probably wasn’t often because of his coverage skills.

Gent Gators CB #28 – Floris Deseure

Stats : 10 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 interception

When I saw this skinny kid for the first time, looking like he’s 12 years old, I was worried that he was going to get killed on the field. Turns out he can actually play. Solid cover corner, gets very low and wraps his tackles.

Leuven Lions CB #9 – Levi Geerts

Stats : 10 tackles, 4 passes defended, 1 interception

Had a busy season covering the top receiver on the opposition team. Good coverage guy and keeps his eye on the ball.

Antwerp Diamonds S #25 – Isaac Luntadila Lufungula

Stats : 12.5 tackles, 2 passes defended, 1 interception

Tough to be a rookie free safety, but keeps things in front of him and steps up into the play when required.

* Doesn’t include game against Black Angels (yet)
