0334 – May 27 : All-FFL Team

The All-FFL Team

Finally it’s here, the one everyone has been waiting for (maybe), the announcement of the All-FFL team. As usual, it was difficult for me to make the team – well, there were quite a few players who it was easy to decide to put them in, but there were a lot of players who could have made it in but just didn’t. It’s always the same, there are always a few people I feel bad for because they’ve had good seasons and could have made it too.
Anyway, choices have to be made, and from the 246 players who had their names on a game sheet this year, I had to cut it down to 42. The process is ongoing for the whole FFL season, I don’t just make it up the day before I release it. After the first couple of weeks I have a list of everyone who I have in contention at each position, and then each week I alter the rankings based on what I saw during the games (and by watching game tape).
But enough about me, let’s check out who made the team.

STARTING OFFENSE

QB : GNT – Bart Killens
RB : BB – Ben Acheson
HB : BBA – Rashidi Banza
WR : GNT – Thomas Lezy
WR : BB – Michael Roudebush
TE : GNT – Stef Dufour
T : IZE – Jeroen Vanhauwere
T : BB – Oliver Beck
G : ANT – Gilles Pierre
G : LEU – Sebastian D’Hollander
C : BB – Denis Lyck

STARTING DEFENSE

DL : BB – Michael De Nolf
DL : BBA – Reda Vrancken
DL : BB – Romy Nyati Panzu
OLB : PUU – Ken Meersmans
ILB : LEU – Jan Caelenberghe
ILB : BBA – Benjamin Dosunmu
OLB : IZE – Wim Vanmarcke
CB : IZE – Chris Humprhey
CB : BBA – Nicolas Delaisse
S : LEU – Stephane T’Jonck
S : BB – Kevin Van De Wiele

SPECIALISTS

K : BB – Kirsten Stalmans
P : PUU – Mathias Lagae
KR : BBA – Bryan Alloun

BACKUPS

QB : BB – Francis Njufom
QB : BBA – Kevin Noel
RB : PUU – Nico Steenackers
RB : IZE – Tanner Atwood
RB : LEU – Seppe Delmeiren
TE : ANT – Joris Verhelst
WR : BBA – Thomas Bouron
T : BB – Lionel Sapart
C : BBA – Jimmy Dupont
DE : BB – Casimir Sumen
LB : PUU – Wim Borremans
LB : ANT – Sergio Borra
LB/S/RB : PUU – Cedric Steenbeke
CB : ANT – Nils De Groef
CB : BB – Guillaume Cerfontaine
S : GNT – Eckhart Piqueur
S/LB : GNT – Kim Jolie

Obviously there are some players who have the ability to play multiple positions, should it be neccessary. Reda Vrancken can also play tackle, Jeroen Vanhauwere can play defensive line, Thomas Bouron, Kim Jolie, Thomas Lezy and Joris Verhelst can return kicks. Denis Lyck would have made it as a specialist long snapper if he wasn’t the starting center, and Mathias Lagae would have made it as a back-up linebacker if he hadn’t made it as a punter.

Notes about the team

– For just over half of the team (22), it’s their first selection
– Only 8 players have been selected in all three years
– Yes, there are lots of runningbacks and linebackers. I find that in general, these are the positions best played throughout the league.

So that’s it. Well done to everyone who made it, thanks to everyone who provided tape so I could watch the big guys do their thing, and thanks to you all for reading. On Thursday we’ll take a look at the matchup at the Belgian Bowl. Until next time
